Poem - Legend Zakir Hussain
The Fingers that Dance
With fingers swift, and wrists so fine,
Zakir Hussain plays the tabla divine,
Born in Mumbai, with rhythm in his soul,
He began to play, with a passion that made him whole.
At seven years old, he took the stage,
With Pandit Ravi Shankar, in a musical age,
He played with fire, with speed and with might,
And the crowd was mesmerized, by his tabla's delight.
He collaborated with John McLaughlin, a perfect blend,
Forming Shakti, a band that would transcend,
He played with Jan Garbarek, and Bill Laswell too,
Creating music that was new, and forever true.
He composed soundtracks, for films so grand,
"In Custody", "The Namesake", and "Apocalypse Now" in hand,
He won Grammy Awards, and Padma Shri's might,
Padma Bhushan, and National Heritage Fellowship's light.
Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, a recognition so fine,
For his contributions to music, and his rhythm divine,
Zakir Hussain's legacy, will forever shine so bright,
A true tabla maestro, in the morning's first light.
With every beat, he tells a story so true,
Of passion, fire, and a soul that's anew,
His music transcends, boundaries of space and time,
Zakir Hussain's tabla, forever sublime.
